A 5-2 loss and a 0-0 overtime tie to Bemidji State University in a home-and-home series last weekend resulted in a drop of four spots to No. 9 in the latest USCHO.com Poll.
The University of Denver, the defending NCAA champion, continued to hold down the top position with 999 points and 49 of the 50 first-place votes. The Pioneers were followed by Harvard University (897 points), St. Cloud State University (886 pts. and the remaining first-place vote), the University of North Dakota (791 pts.), the University of Notre Dame (743 pts.), the University of Wisconsin (731 pts.), Boston University (621 pts.), University of Minnesota (583 pts.), UMD (513 pts.) and Providence College (495 pts.)
The Bulldogs, Denver, St. Cloud State and North Dakota were the four (out of a possible eight) National Collegiate Hockey Clubs clubs to crack USCHO.com’s Top 20 while the University of Nebraska Omaha and Western Michigan University received votes. UMD has been ranked in every USCHO.com weekly poll since March 7, 2016 and during the 2016-17 season spent a school-record 11 weeks occupied the No. 1 position.
UMD (1-2-1 overall) will host unranked Merrimack College this Friday and Saturday (Oct. 20-21) in a pair of non-conference bouts.
