CBS 3 announces evening co-anchor

CBS 3 News evening anchors Kristen Vake and Anthony Matt. Submitted

Anthony Matt will join Kristen Vake as co-anchor of the CBS 3 News at 6 p.m. and 10 p.m., the station announced today.

In a press release, CBS 3 said that viewers benefit when local news is delivered by local people. The addition of Matt continues this vision, making CBS 3 the only local news station in Minnesota with an entire evening team consisting of Minnesota natives.

No one understands this value more than longtime meteorologist and Ely-native Dave Anderson.

“Anthony knows our region — viewers will relate to him,” said Anderson. “He’s a strong addition and we’re happy to have him aboard.”

Matt is a familiar face to CBS 3 viewers as he has been a reporter and fill-in anchor since 2016.

“I’m excited to join the very talented Kristen Vake and further contribute to CBS 3’s hyperlocal focus,” said Anderson. “I look forward to serving my neighbors of the Twin Ports region and continuing that local focus on the desk.”

While award-winning journalist Vake continues to anchor the evening news, Anthony brings additional journalism experience to the team.

“Anthony’s knowledge of the region and his passion for storytelling make him a great addition to our evening news team,” said Vake, a Chisholm-native. “It’s no secret our CBS 3 team has a lot of pride and love for this region and we’re happy to have Anthony join us.”

News director Kevin Jacobsen said, “Anthony has built a reputation for fair and balanced reporting on major issues that our viewers expect and deserve. Viewers will still get that same quality journalism with Anthony’s transition to the anchor desk.”

Matt grew up in Inver Grove Heights, Minn., and attended Inver Hills Community College and Middle Tennessee State University before graduating from St. Cloud State University with a bachelors degree in Broadcast Journalism.

Matt and his wife Renae have been married for 10 years and make Duluth their home. In his free time, he enjoys fishing, hunting and golf.

Watch Vake and Matt weeknights on CBS 3 News at 6 p.m. and 10 p.m. The show also features Anderson and Sports Director Kelly Hinseth.

A Duluth/Superior, Quincy Media-owned CBS affiliate, CBS 3’s award-winning broadcasts feature hyper-local news focused on the Twin Ports along with weather and sports coverage. In addition to CBS 3’s local news broadcasts, other outlets for local content include a website and mobile app.
