St. Scholastica inducts members into new first-generation student honor society

The College of St. Scholastica will host an induction ceremony for a new academic honor society that recognizes first-generation college students.

The Alpha Alpha Alpha (or Tri-Alpha) Induction Ceremony will take place at 5 p.m. Friday, Nov. 8 in the Mitchell Auditorium on campus.

Tri-Alpha honors the academic achievements of first-generation college students, defined as those whose parents or legal guardians didn’t earn a bachelor’s degree.

“The addition of Tri-Alpha provides an opportunity for St. Scholastica to publicly recognize the successes of our many first-generation students,” said Dr. Ryan Sandefer, associate vice president for Academic Affairs.

To be eligible, a student must:

be a current full-time degree candidate in a bachelor’s degree program
have completed at least three full-time semesters of study (minimum 36 credits) and at least one full-time semester of study completed at St. Scholastica (for transfer students)
have an overall GPA of at least 3.2 in all coursework.
