Denfeld and Hermantown can claim their respective eight-team high school boys hockey 2019 holiday tournament titles today.
The Class A 11th-ranked Hunters (8-2-1) and Owatonna (8-1) meet in the Heritage Holiday Classic final at 3:30 p.m. at Essentia Duluth Heritage Center.
The Class A top-ranked Hawks (8-1-1) are expected to blitz Buffalo (4-7) in the Hilltopper Holiday Classic championship at 3 p.m. at Mars Lakeview Arena.
Denfeld senior forward Griffin Lehet scored five goals in tourney victories against De Pere (WI), 5-3, and Roseville, 6-2, extending his personal scoring streak to nine games. Team scoring leader Connor McClure has three goals in the tourney.
Senior Blake Biondi had five goals and 10 points for Hermantown in tournament wins against Brainerd, 4-1, and lowly Fort Frances, 13-1. Junior forward Ethan Lund had three goals and seven points in the Hawks’ semifinal victory, and senior goaltender Jacob Backstrom has stopped 29 of 31 shots in the tourney.
