Lake Superior College has experienced another strong incoming and returning class for fall semester 2017.
With final add/drop dates now past, LSC is reporting the highest total enrollment in over five years. Total headcount is 4,079 students, which is an increase of 80 students, or 2.0%, from 10th day (final add/drop date) of Fall Semester 2016.
Several contributing factors help account for the overall increase, including a 9.6% increase in online students, a 3.7% increase in the Liberal Arts and Sciences program (including general credits for transfer), and a 23% increase of in international students.
Daniel Fanning, Director of Institutional Advancement and Public Relations for LSC, said increased enrollment is a result of strong recruitment and retention numbers, the expansion of athletic programs and other opportunities for students to get involved, and more students choosing to save money by completing their first two years at LSC before transferring to a four-year university.
“Lake Superior College is the #1 college destination for graduating seniors in our community, including Proctor and Hermantown,” said Fanning. “An increasing number of students, and their parents, are realizing the significant value in earning an in-demand technical degree before going into the workforce and/or an associate degree before transferring to a four-year university. Our quality programs help prepare our students for success in the workforce as well as at the university level. We are excited to see our enrollment at a five-year high and will strive to continue that trend for years to come.”
Lake Superior College recently added mountain biking and a clay target league to their list of athletic offerings, which also includes men’s and women’s soccer. The goal is to add men’s and women’s basketball in the fall of 2018.
