On the Road to Grandma’s, Literally: Heavy traffic expected on Interstate 35

The annual Grandma’s Marathon, scheduled on Saturday, is one of Duluth’s biggest events, attracting thousands of visitors each year. The Minnesota Department of transportation expects heavy traffic levels on Interstate 35 in the days prior-to and after marathon events, which officially begin Thursday.

On I-35 from the South Pune County Line to the Snake River in Pine City, traffic is restricted to a single lane in each direction and northbound ramps at Highway 7 are closed. Highway ramp traffic is being detoured onto the northbound I-35 ramps at highway 70 and Highway 11. Backups are expected.

To avoid traffic delays MnDOT encourages visitors to allow extra travel time, come early and stay late, travel during off-peak times, check www.511mn.org for the latest traveler and traffic information or consider taking an alternate route.
