A load testing project is scheduled to begin at 10 p.m., Sunday, July 22 on the Interstate 535 Blatnik Bridge. The testing will require lane closures and temporary, full closures. Pedestrians will not be allowed on the bridge during the testing.
· At 10 p.m., Sunday, July 22, the right lane in each direction will close on the bridge as equipment and vehicles are positioned and set up for the testing.
· At 12:01 a.m., Monday, July 23, the bridge will close to all motorists.
· Multiple tests will be performed throughout the night. After each test is completed, traffic will be allowed to cross the bridge and then the bridge will close again.
· The bridge is expected to completely reopen before dawn.
It is suggested that motorists take an alternate route during the testing or they may wait for the bridge to reopen temporarily throughout the night.
The testing is being done as part of a study MnDOT is doing on the Blatnik Bridge to better understand its current condition and help to plan for future needs.
MnDOT has scheduled the testing at night to minimize disruption to traffic.
During the week of July 9 motorists may notice drones flying near the Blatnik Bridge. The drones are being used to take photographs in preparation for the load testing project.
