UMD Athletics — The University of Minnesota Duluth women’s hockey team will start the season somewhere its been before — as one of the nation’s top teams.

The Bulldogs are sitting No. 9 in’s preseason national poll that was released Monday, putting UMD back into the national rankings for the first time since it hit the eight spot in October of last season.

Although the Bulldogs finished the season just out of the top-10 in 2017-18, the return of gold medalist Maddie Rooney to the net and one of the best freshmen class in program history was not lost on the committee.

The 2018-2019 season will open for the Bulldogs this Saturday when they host the Minnesota Whitecaps at 4 p.m. at AMSOIL Arena.
