The Bulldogs swept Maine in a nonconference college men’s hockey series over the weekend at The Oil Can, punctuated by a 3-2 victory Saturday.

Junior wing Riley Tufte and freshmen forwards Noah Cates and Cole Koepke scored goals for third-ranked UMD (4-1-1), which won 8-2 Friday and out-shot the Black Bears 100-38 in the series.

Bulldogs All-American defenseman Scott Perunovich had a six-point weekend.

“No matter what happens on Friday, you have to be prepared to bring it every night,” Bulldogs coach Scott Sandelin said after Saturday’s victory. “That’s a good lesson for us. I didn’t think our intensity level tonight was where it was last night. I did like the character and resiliency we showed in the last six to eight minutes. At the end of the day it was a different kind of win — the kind that you find a little more about your team.”

UMD visits Notre Dame Friday-Saturday in rematches of last April’s NCAA championship game.
