Essentia Health is hosting joint-replacement seminars on Monday, March 2, and Tuesday, March 3.
The informational seminars are a great way to learn if you or a loved one is a candidate for joint-replacement surgery. Topics will cover surgical options, including the innovative Mako, a robotic arm-assisted surgery that combines digital planning, computer technology and techniques for the safest, most accurate and least invasive hip and knee replacements available.
Essentia’s joint-replacement team will share options for hip and knee care and give a live Mako demonstration, as well as answer questions.
No registration is required for the seminars, which are open to everyone. Monday’s seminar is at Barker’s Island Inn in Superior (300 Marina Drive) and Tuesday’s is at Pier B Resort in Duluth (800 West Railroad Street). Both start at 5:30 p.m. Soup and hot sandwiches will be provided.
. Essentia also is hosting a Meet Mako event from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Thursday, March 7, in the atrium of the Duluth Clinic First Street Building. Attendees will be able to experience how Mako works, with Essentia’s joint-replacement team on hand to provide insight.
In the summer of 2019, Essentia Health-St. Mary’s Medical Center became the first hospital in the Northland to offer this technology to orthopedic patients.
“The Mako robotic arm-assisted surgery system is a new technology that provides surgeons a tool with much greater accuracy and safety for performing hip- and knee-replacement procedures,” said Essentia orthopedic surgeon Dr. Brad Edgerton. “The more accurately hip and knee implants are placed in the patient’s body, the more successful they will be and the longer they will last.”
