Duluth officials conduct initial assessment following storm surge

By Pakou Ly City of Duluth officials have conducted a very preliminary assessment of the damages as a result of yesterday’s storm surge. During the assessment, the city reviewed multiple areas such as Park Point, Brighton Beach, the Lakewalk Trail and western neighborhoods. Erosion, downed trees, flooding, and dislodged boards and amenities were prevalent. Additional and more thorough assessments will occur in the coming days. Interstate 35 ramp scheduled to close September 17‒20 in Duluth

The ramp from Cody Street to southbound Highway 2/I-35 will close Monday, September 17 through Thursday, September 20 for a drainage and concrete repair project. The closed area begins just south of North 68th Avenue West. A posted detour will direct motorists east on Cody Street, south on North Central Avenue and then left onto the I-35 freeway entrance ramp.

Duluth city administrator Montgomery announces retirement

David Montgomery announced today that effective October 1 he is retiring after serving nine years and two mayors as Duluth’s city administrator. Montgomery was first hired in April 2009 by former Mayor Don Ness. In the wake of the global financial crisis, one of his first tasks was to restore the city’s financial stability, rebuild its reserves and improve the city’s bond rating.
