Dr. Catherine Benziger, a cardiologist, has joined the Essentia Health St. Mary’s Heart and Vascular Center in Duluth.

Dr. Benziger grew up in the Twin Cities and is happy to be back in Minnesota.

“I was able to complete some of my training at St. Mary’s, and I remember that everyone was very welcoming and friendly,” she said. “Now that I have a family, I’m so glad to be back here practicing and living closer to my family, and I look forward to raising my children in this great community.”

Dr. Benziger earned a medical degree from the University of Minnesota Medical School in Minneapolis. She completed a residency in internal medicine and a fellowship in cardiology at the University of Washington Medical Center in Seattle, Washington. She is certified by the American Board of Internal Medicine in internal medicine.

“I work hard to keep up to date on modern cardiovascular care and I try to incorporate shared decision-making and advanced cardiovascular concepts in my practice,” said Dr. Benziger. “I want to be someone my patients can trust, and I believe it’s my job to help them better understand diagnostic and possible treatment options that can improve their health.”

Dr. Anne Normand, an orthopedic oncology surgeon, has joined the Essentia Health-Duluth Clinic in Duluth. Dr. Normand specializes in the assessment and treatment of benign and malignant tumors of bone and soft tissue.

Dr. Normand worked for Essentia Health from 2006-2014, and looks forward to returning to her practice after completing additional fellowship training.

She completed a residency in orthopedic surgery at Boston Medical Center in Boston, Massachusetts, and a fellowship in musculoskeletal oncology at the University of Texas in Houston, Texas. She recently completed an additional fellowship in Orthopedic Spine Surgery at Twin Cities Spine in Minneapolis. She is certified by the American Board of Orthopedic Surgery in orthopedic surgery.

Nurse Practitioner Claire Kap has joined the Urology Department at the Essentia Health-Duluth Clinic.

“I have always felt strongly about giving back to my community, and I wanted to be associated with an organization that feels that same way,” said Kap. “I was immediately drawn to Essentia Health’s ties to the community and service to the local underserved population.”

Kap earned a master’s degree in nursing from Marian University in Fond du Lac, Wisconsin. She is certified by the American Academy of Nurse Practitioners as an adult/gerontology nurse practitioner.

“Creating relationships with my patients and their families that are built on trust and respect is paramount in my practice,” said Kap. “It is my goal and commitment to make sure that my patients receive the best possible care.”

Nurse Practitioner Terri Heinbaugh has joined the Obstetrics and Gynecology Department at the Essentia Health-Duluth Clinic.

“Essentia’s mission and values made it easy to choose this opportunity,” said Heinbaugh. “Everyone is working together toward the common goal of making a healthy difference in people’s lives, and I’m excited to be a part of this team.”

Heinbaugh earned a master’s degree in nursing from Drexel University in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. She is certified as a women’s health nurse practitioner by the National Certification Corp.

“I began working in labor and delivery in a small hospital right out of nursing school and continued to care for patients in larger birthing and obstetrics facilities over the next 17 years,” Heinbaugh said. “I’ve always been honored to be a participant in the delivery process — it is such a miracle.”
