Lester Park Elementary School students will bring joy to patients at Essentia Health-St. Mary’s Medical Center at 11:30 a.m. Thursday, Dec. 21. The kids make ornaments in class and decorate small trees, then deliver the trees to patients at St. Mary’s.
The project began after a young boy told his family he’d like to give back to the nurses and doctors who helped save his little brother’s life, after being severely burned. It was his personal “giving” project to donate trees to patients who may have to spend the holiday away from home. That patient is now a tenth grader at Duluth East High School, and his older brother is a college sophomore.
The project’s success has touched the lives of hundreds of patients who could not be home for the holidays.
