Senior forward Ian Mageau scored two goals and added an assist to power No. 2-2A Duluth East to a 5-3 victory over No. 7-2A Centennial in a high school hockey game Tuesday night at Essentia Duluth Heritage Center.

Will Fisher, Frederick Hunter Paine and Ricky Lyle also scored goals for the Greyhounds (4-0-2).

Lucas McGregor had three goals for the Cougars (5-1-1).

“It was a great team effort, our guys dug deep, stayed with it and pulled out a victory against a really good team that we hadn’t beaten in five years,” Greyhounds Coach Mike Randolph said outside his team’s locker room after the game. “I thought (goaltender Lukan) Hanson was really good early and made some good saves. We were a little sloppy and gave up a shorthanded goal there. But again, we found a way to win.”

Duluth East next competes in the nightcap of the annual Perkins Frenzy at 7:30 p.m. Tuesday at Essentia Duluth Heritage Center. Duluth Denfeld and Superior meet in the 5:15 p.m. opener.

Xavier Patterson scored a team-high 20 points to lead host Superior to a 57-50 high school basketball victory over Chippewa Falls Tuesday night. Mason Ackley contributed 12 points and Ben Rhodes 11 for the Spartans, who trailed 27-21 at the half.
