Highway 23 closed at the south fork of the Nemadji River in Carlton County

Highway 23 is closed at the south fork of the Nemadji River (near milepost 322) in Carlton County due to highway damage caused by record high water levels. The highway will remain closed until the damage can be assessed and repairs are made.

There is no posted detour route. Many county roads are also closed due to flooding.

MnDOT is posting changeable message signs to warn motorists of the highway closure so they can find alternate routes.

Changeable message signs will be posted on Interstate 35 at the Sandstone exit and on Highway 23 at Highway 210. Two other changeable message signs will be placed at County Road 10 and County Road 4. Barricades have been placed on both sides of the washed out area.

Engineers are on site today assessing the damage.
