Hermantown senior power forward Jacob Herter, on scoring a pair of goals to lead his team to a 6-0 victory over International Falls in a Section 7AA semifinal Friday night at The Oil Can in Duluth:

“Feels great to get the first couple here in the playoffs and to get the ‘W’ tonight. It’s a big semifinal win but we can’t dwell on it too much because we’ve got an even bigger game to play Wednesday night. Tonight was a tough game, because the Falls came out hard against us and left it all on the ice.”

Herter, on the Hawks’ focused approach on their road back to state which continues against Greenway in the Section 7A championship game Wednesday at 7 p.m. at The Oil Can:

“We’re focusing on defense first, and to create offense off our defense. We won’t win allowing six goals a game. If we can limit the goals-against to just two and put the expectation on our offense to score three, this might be our ticket.”

Herter, on the mindset of the players and coaches in the Hawks’ locker room:

“We’re taking it day by day. Our mission since the start of the season is to three-peat at state, and we’ve worked towards this goal every single day. The key is to continue to believe in each other in the locker room and doing your own job, and trusting each other guy to do his job, too. And not to put yourself out of position trying to do their work.”
