A swearing in ceremony for Duluth City Councilors Zack Filipovich, Barb Russ, Joel Sipress and Renee Van Nett will be held Monday, January 8 at 5:15 p.m. in Room 405 Duluth City Hall.

The ceremony will be followed by a Committee of the Whole presentation at 6:15 p.m. and the City Council meeting at 7 p.m., both in the Council Chambers.

The event is open to the public. Light refreshments will follow the ceremony.

According to a little birdie, a new traffic signal will be installed at the base of the Spirit Mountain Recreation Area, at Grand Avenue (Highway 23) and Warwick Street. The city of Duluth and St. Louis County have secured funding for the right of way acquisition and construction of a new city street, Kayak Bay Road. The future street will create a new four-way intersection on Highway 23. This project will ensure vehicle and pedestrian safety as the planned development and existing recreational amenities increase traffic at the intersection. Total project cost is $354,000.

A public information meeting to discuss the planned reconditioning of East 8th/9th Street in the East Hillside neighborhood will be held Thursday, Jan. 11 at 5:30 p.m. at Grant Community Recreation Center. City of Duluth staff will provide project information including the scope of work, access and schedule. The meeting is open to the public.
