Parking changes begin May 29 due to construction of GSC North in Virginia

Beginning Tuesday, May 29, parking options will be changed for anyone visiting the Northland Office Building and surrounding offices in downtown Virginia, due to construction of the St. Louis County Government Services Center (GSC) North facility.

The new GSC North building is being constructed on what’s currently a parking lot for the Northland Building. This lot will be closed to all parking after the close of business this Friday, May 25.

Public parking for the initial project phase will be along 1st Street South between 3rd and 4th Avenues South. Remote parking with shuttle service has been arranged for county staff to maximize the space available for the public.

As the project progresses, two lots across 4th Avenue south will be reconditioned to accommodate public parking for the duration of the project. Once these lots are open, 1st Street South will be closed off by the contractor. The sidewalk along the south side of the Northland Building will remain open for access until the new GSC opens.

Parking will be affected for up to two years during construction of the new building, followed by deconstruction of the old. A new parking lot will be put in place of the Northland Building. The GSC North is a $19 million investment in downtown Virginia. It will be a two-story, 63,000 square foot facility, and will serve as a centralized hub for people in Virginia and surrounding areas to access county services from more than 10 departments in one place. Approximately 180 employees will work in the building.

The City of Virginia and St. Louis County have collaborated to develop parking options to meet the foreseeable needs during the construction project. The City of Virginia will carry out parking enforcement. Any questions about parking can be directed to St. Louis County Property Management at 218-725-5085.
