Thunder’s Suggs earns player of the week honors

Fond du Lac Tribal and Community College Thunder running back Trebian Suggs was named Offensive Player of the Week in the Minnesota College Athletic Conference Eastern Division for games played on Saturday.

Suggs produced 168 total all-purpose yards and scored three touchdowns (one rushing, one receiving, and one on a punt return) in the Thunder’s 33-26 win at Northland Community and Technical College in Thief River Falls last Saturday.

Suggs had five receptions with a long of 77 yards for a touchdown, and his punt return for a touchdown covered 75 yards. Suggs is a freshman from Pine Forest High School in Pensacola, FL.

This week’s honors for Suggs follows an impressive debut for the Thunder during the first game of the season on September 1. In the that week’s 32-6 victory at Ridgewater, Suggs hauled in seven catches for 86 total yards and two touchdowns. His longest catch on the day was for 42 yards and he earned a 12.3 yards per catch average. On the ground, Suggs rushed five times for 38 total yards, averaging 7.6 yards a carry.

The Thunder’s come-from-behind 33-26 victory at MCAC Western Division opponent Northland Community and Technical College was a battle between teams that started the 2018 season with wins. The Thunder gained some attention in the conference on Saturday with the 33-26 win at Northland Community & Technical College, who were receiving votes in the NJCAA National Top 20 poll heading in to the game against the Thunder. It was the second consecutive road win for the Thunder, who defeated Ridgewater Community College 32-6 in their season opener.

The 2018 Thunder football team is currently 2-0 on the season. The Thunder host their first home game this Saturday when they play Rochester Technical & Community College at 1:30 p.m. at Duluth East Stadium.

The Minnesota College Athletic Conference is a member of the National Junior College Athletic Association. The football conference includes 12 teams which are divided geographically into Eastern and Western Divisions.
