UMD Theatre selected for KCACTF Regionals

Kennedy Center American College Theatre Festival has again invited UMD Theatre to perform at the Region 5 Festival in Des Moines, Iowa. UMD Theatre’s Antigone, written by Sophocles and translated by Don Taylor, is one of seven productions selected to perform in the seven-state KCACTF regionals on Jan. 21-27, 2018.

Due to the sold out September/October shows, and to help defray travel costs to KCACTF, UMD Theatre will host encore performances of the show on Friday-Saturday, Jan. 12-13 at 7:30 p.m. at Marshall Performing Arts Center.

Tickets are available online at or by calling 218-726-8561. Prices are $30 for adults and $15 for students.

Over the past 30 years, UMD Theatre has been selected 13 times to present at the KCACTF Regionals and has been chosen five times to perform at the National Festival held at the Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts in Washington, D.C.

UMD Theatre accomplished this rare feat of back-to-back KCACTF touring productions once before with three back-to-back KCACTF productions in 2002, 2003 and 2004 (Movie Game, Blur and Lloyd’s Prayer.)

UMD Theatre will present Charlotte’s Web in early February. Charlotte’s Web is based upon the story by E.B. White and dramatized by Joseph Robinette. Wilbur the pig is headed to the butcher, and only the spider Charlotte can save his life. A magical, heartwarming tale of friendship and sacrifice, based on the beloved children’s book.

Directed by Tom Isbell, performances will be held:

. Feb 1-3 and 8-10, at 6:30 p.m.

. Feb 3, 4 and 10, at 2 p.m.

All performances will be held at Marshall Performing Arts Center’s Mainstage Theatre.
