SUPERIOR, Wis. – The University of Wisconsin-Superior Music Department will hold its Symphonic Band concert on Tuesday, Feb. 27, at 7:30 p.m. in the Thorpe Langley Auditorium.
The concert, entitled “An International Evening of Music,” will include pieces that celebrate music from around the world. Each piece has a distinct sound and approach to composing for the wind band and include elements of the human spirit such as joy, contemplation, elements of the after world and inspirations of traditions of Irish folk tunes.
Works include “Lied ohne Worte,” by German composer Rolf Rudin, “Black Water,” by Irish composer Fergal Carroll, “Ghosts,” by English composer Steven McNeff. The concert will also include the world premiere performance of “Music for Winds and Piano,” by American composer Noah D. Taylor, which was commissioned by the UW-Superior Student Chapter of the National Association of Music Educators.
