Hermantown Community Schools Superintendent Wayne Whitwam on the new synthetic turf baseball and softball fields at Fichtner Field, which will be available for play starting this spring – "We are excited for our baseball and softball teams to have the opportunity to play and practice on such an impressive turf field. In past years we have not hosted many home games and had to move practices because that field was so wet."
Joe Wicklund of the City of Hermantown on the major upgrades at Fichtner – “It’s exciting to be close to finalizing the reimagining and redesigning of Fichtner Park. The added turf makes baseball and softball so much more playable in the early months and in challenging weather, the accessible playground is a huge community addition, and the new skatepark is a significant upgrade over the previous part. From several new batting cages to a much-improved seating and viewing experience for folks watching the games, this will feel like a much more vibrant park in the center of our community. The multi-sport court will be completed later this spring as well, so there is even more coming on line for park users. A big thanks to everyone – from the voters who made this happen through the Community Recreation Initiative to our two key philanthropic partners, Centricity Credit Union and Essentia Health – for helping bring this project forward for Hermantown.”
