Carter Vork and Lauren Dynek, both from Duluth, were the first to cross the finish line on Saturday morning at the Superior Nightmare 5K.
Vork, 25, clinched the men's race in 18:24, leading a group of six teenagers to the finish, all within two minutes of his time. Thirteen-year-old Axel Ohrt came in second with a time of 19:12, closely followed by 17-year-old Gaven Greshowak at 19:18.
In the women's race, Dynek, also 25, triumphed with a time of 19:56, over a minute ahead of Calla Gilbertson, who came in second at 21:15.
The event saw 576 runners complete the course, which this year was renamed and relocated from the city's north end to the university district. The participants donned costumes, and the route wound through some of Superior's most renowned Halloween neighborhoods, including the notable Hammond Park.
This year's turnout was the second-largest in the race's history, only surpassed by the first event in 2019, which had 863 finishers.
