Vikings place Ivan Pace on IR; sign former Commanders LB Jamin Davis

Alli Rusco / Minnesota Vikings

The Vikings on Tuesday offset having to place linebacker Ivan Pace, Jr., on Injured Reserve with the signing of former Commanders LB Jamin Davis.

Minnesota also announced the activation of rookie outside linebacker Gabriel Murphy, who joined the team as an undrafted free agent out of UCLA. Murphy has been recovering from a knee injury suffered during training camp.

Pace suffered a hamstring injury Sunday at Chicago. He must miss a minimum of four games while on IR. The second-year pro has started all nine games he's played this season, totaling 59 tackles, six tackles for loss, six QB hits, 3.0 sacks and a fumble he returned 36 yards for his first career touchdown.

Kamu Grugier-Hill filled in for Pace against the Bears.

Davis, the 19th overall pick of the 2021 NFL Draft by Washington joined Minnesota's 53-man roster from Green Bay's practice squad. He joined the Packers on Oct. 29 after his release by the Commanders the previous week.

Davis appeared in 50 games and started 36 for Washington. He has totaled 282 tackles, 21 tackles for loss, 10 quarterback hits, 7.0 sacks, six passes defensed, two forced fumbles, two fumble recoveries and an interception. His pick occurred on Desmond Ridder in a 24-16 win by Washington at Atlanta in 2023.

Listed at 6-foot-3 and 234 pounds, Davis played college football at Kentucky, where he recorded 144 tackles, five tackles for loss, 2.5 sacks, five interceptions (one returned for a touchdown), a forced fumble and a fumble recovery in 35 games from 2018-20.
