"After significant and positive dialogue with Kirk and his representatives, we were unable to reach agreement on a contract that fits the short and long-term visions for both Kirk and the Minnesota Vikings. Kirk holds a special place in Vikings history, and we appreciate his leadership and contributions to the team and the Minneapolis-St. Paul community over the past six seasons. We wish him, his wife, Julie, and their children all the best.
Our approach heading into free agency always included layers of contingencies regarding the quarterback position. We are moving forward with plans that allow us to continue building a roster that can compete for a championship."
– Vikings General Manager Kwesi Adofo-Mensah
Vikings 2024 NFL Draft selections
The Minnesota Vikings have nine selections in the 2024 NFL Draft, which will be hosted by Detroit on April 25-27.
Minnesota has been assigned the 11th overall pick in the first round based on reverse order of finish in the 2023 regular season.
The Vikings were one of four teams to finish 7-10, but tiebreakers resulted in the Falcons (No. 8 pick), Bears (No. 9) and Jets (No. 10) being awarded higher spots.
Minnesota has selected from the 11th overall spot three times in franchise history. The Vikings drafted defensive end Derrick Alexander in 1995, quarterback Daunte Culpepper in 1999 and cornerback Trae Waynes in 2015 from that position.
In the second round, the Vikings have the third spot among those four teams, landing at No. 42.
The Vikings have picks in the following rounds (as of March 11, 2024):
First round, 11th overall
Second round, 42nd overall
Fourth round, 108th overall
Fourth round, 129th overall (from Detroit)
Fifth round, 157th overall (from Cleveland)
Fifth round, 167th overall (from Kansas City)
Sixth round, 177th overall (from Carolina through Jacksonville; acquired Oct. 31, 2023)
Sixth round, 188th overall (from Las Vegas through New England)
Seventh round, 230th overall (conditional from Atlanta through Cleveland and Arizona; acquired Oct. 31, 2023)
Teams normally are slated to have at least one selection in each of the seven rounds, but Minnesota has executed multiple trades.
Where did the other selections go?
Third Round: Minnesota sent this pick and a 2023 second-round selection to Detroit in exchange for T.J. Hockenson, a 2023 fourth-round selection and the 2024 fourth-round pick.
Fifth round (original selection): Minnesota sent this selection to Philadelphia as part of the deal to acquire Jalen Reagor in August 2022.
Sixth Round (original selection): The Vikings sent this pick to the Cardinals to acquire quarterback Joshua Dobbs and receive a 2024 seventh-round pick on Oct. 31, 2023.
Seventh Round: Minnesota sent this pick to Las Vegas to acquire quarterback Nick Mullens in August 2022.
Who was involved in the trades that added picks to Minnesota's collection?
Fourth round (from Detroit): This was received in the deal for Hockenson.
Fifth round (from Kansas City): This selection, along with the 134th overall pick of 2023 (used to select defensive back Jay Ward), were acquired when the Chiefs traded up for the 119th overall pick of 2023 (used to select defensive back Chamarri Conner).
Fifth round (from Cleveland): This selection was acquired when Minnesota traded Za'Darius Smith and 2025 sixth- and seventh-round picks to Cleveland in exchange for fifth-round picks in 2024 and 2025.
Sixth round (from Las Vegas through New England): This was acquired by sending tackle Vederian Lowe to the Patriots before the 2023 season began.
Sixth round (from Jacksonville): The Vikings added this one on Oct. 31, 2023, in exchange for left guard Ezra Cleveland.
Seventh round (conditional from Atlanta through Arizona): This was acquired along with Joshua Dobbs from Arizona when Minnesota sent a sixth-round selection to the Cardinals on Oct. 31, 2023.
